World Seismotectonic Map

Seismotectonics is a branch of geology that studies the relationship between seismic phenomena and the Earth's tectonic structures and processes.

In simpler terms, this field seeks to understand how the movement of tectonic plates, faults, stress fields in the Earth's crust, and the historical activity of faults are related to the occurrence of earthquakes and seismic patterns in a region.

This is the world seismotectonic map prepared by Dr. Abdolazim Haghipour, a prominent geologist and active member of the National Committee for Earth Sciences under the National UNESCO Commission, in 2001. The map illustrates active faults and their historical activity, the orientation and movement of tectonic plates (distinguishing between continental and oceanic plates), seismic hotspots, earthquake histories, as well as the depth and magnitude of earthquakes.
